Hey Edward -

I'm guessing that you're reading http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Cocoa/Conceptual/ObjCTutorial/06Controller/chapter_6_section_6.html#/
/apple_ref/doc/uid/TP40000863-CH8-SW16

In that document, the screenshot, figure 5-3 is in a confusing place, 
read the next bullet point after the screenshot to clear things up.
