SoftVdig and quartz

I just want to check weather I am on the right track.

I'm wanting to build a screen capture application ala podcast producer 
except I want it to be a video source for quicktime broadcaster.

What I'm wondering if there is a framework for this? Private or not.

If not would my best option be capturing the screen with quartz and 
using softvdig to digitize?

I've read through the archives amdsewn this question asked a lot yet 
no clear answers.  There was a reference to quartz and softvdig but 
the code example is not available.

Any help would be great.
