Another, possibly esoteric question.
Is it possible to identify a file purely by an ID? Similarly to the way
hosts are identified by an IP address.
It seems to me identifying a file by its path is fragile at best.
I want to build a database of files and allow the users to move the
files willy nilly even when my app is not running. If my database could
identify files by an ID it would be pretty easy to keep track of the
files. And when the database is running it would simplify things as
well.
