That would be what the sentence is saying. By my read, the following 
sentences describes why:

The NSManagedObject class implements the functionality needed to 
fully integrate into the Core Data framework and can represent any 
entity.

Of course, that sentence doesn't tell us what functionality is needed 
there, but you'd expect that there would be lots of interesting stuff 
happening under the covers in NSManagedObject so that Core Data can 
do it's auto undo/redo magic and the persistent store logic.
