  I basically agree.

  Let me just mention that Jeff Johnson's book also provides the
rationale for decisions. It's just that, by virtue of the book's
nature, you get lots of practical examples, anecdotes, and 82 points
to check your projects against, in *addition* to the actual
explanation. He glosses a little over concerns involved in
localizing, but apart from that I think GUI Bloopers is a good book
for programmers trying to get the whole usability thing.
