I should have noted -- I strongly advise making this an ODBC
or JDBC based app, rather than being specific to any given
DBMS connection, and therefore also sticking to standard ODBC
and SQL calls (avoiding MySQL-isms, for example).
I advise this not simply because my employer makes such ODBC
drivers, but because this ensures that you don't limit your
potential audience unnecessarily -- not to mention, if you
build as a MySQL-specific application, you are mandated to
release your own tool either under the GPL, or to resell
MySQL commercial licenses to each of your customers -- each
of which would remove this tool from the land of donationware.
