I had similar problems: downloading was very slow and restarting frequently corrupted the disk image. I _did_ contact DTS about it. So I'm replying just FYI.
DTS said some ISPs run Squid or some similar transparent proxy cache that has trouble with files over 2GB. It turned out that my ISP had a cache but it didn't have that problem.
I tried Firefox, and it gets sizes over 2GB wrong. curl didn't work at all.
In the end, dropping my ADSL connection and connecting again for some reason fixed the problems.
