Structuring multi-framework projects

I've got an app I'm working on that will rely on 3-4 frameworks - which
I am evolving along with the app to some extent.  The frameworks are
open source goodies and come with xcode projects to build them.

Long ago in ProjectBuilder classic, there was a concept of a
subproject, which was pretty much a project within a project that you
depended on.  It was possible to make one project a subproject of
another and then building the top level project forced the subprojects
to build.

I see it is possible to create a framework target in a project, but is
there a way to simply point xcode at the other xcode project and tell
it that this project depends on that one?  I've fiddled around quite a
bit and it doesn't seem like it but I could be missing something.

Or do I have to recreate the build settings from the other project in
mine and essentially duplicate the build info?
