Controlling power to a single USB port?

Total hardware novice here, I would like to be able to cut all power
to a particular USB port on command.  (Optimally, I'd like to cut all
power to a particular device, even if it's connected through a hub, but
I'm thinking that's probably not going to happen.)

   Any pointers, advice?  I've scanned lightly through the example USB
sample code over at ADC, but didn't find the particulars for this need.
