OK, so the SDK is obviously not correct yet.

The NEXT_ROOT variable is set when you select a cross-dev SDK in the
project inspector (step #1 in the article you referenced in your first
post).

I'm not quite sure what you're referring to (target info, project info).
I would have set the Deployment OS (step #2 in that same article) in
the build settings of the *build style* and not in the build settings
for the individual targets. That way it's easier to know that it will
affect all targets.
