Selected menu bar pattern?

Does anyone know how to get the blue (or graphite) pattern you see when
selecting a menu in the menu bar ? (I mean the real top menu, like File
and Edit)

Maybe someone from Unsanity knows this and wants to share? ;)

What I'm trying to do is give my NSStatusItem the ability to have an
alternate picture, ie one that turns white when the menu is selected. I
don't want to start using an NSMenuExtra since it seems that Apple will
continue breaking the 3rd party ones.

Any clues?
