What is with Drag & Drop to the "Go to:" box in the standard OpenPanel

Dragging a non-boot Volume to the "Go to:" box in the Standard OpenPanel in
our application does strange things.

( It currently closes the window and passes back "/Volumes/" as the filename
)

Is this a known bug?

What is the work around?
