Project-like document controlling

I am planning for a application who's document needs to hold many other
files.
Sort of like a project, only I want to save the whole thing into the
one file.
I've come up with a document controller, and several different NIB
files for the different files i want to hold in my document controller.
However i am having trouble to save and load, also getting connection
from each other.
Does anyone know of any sample code that might help me understand how
to develop a application with project document structure?
