It's too bad AlSoft's defrag utility won't run under X. Al knows more
about HFS and HFS+ than any human alive, guaranteed. When I used to
work at Apple, he would come and talk shop about whatever his latest
tool was and we'd drill him with very difficult questions and he'd
always have the answer. Plus he's just a great guy--a true credit to
the Mac community. Long story short--Al's disk tools rule and can be
implicitly trusted, especially Disk Warrior, which has saved my @#$% on
a couple of occasions where no other utility could get the job done.
Anyway, it looks like his defragmentation tool will work, but you'll
have to run it from within OS 9. In my case, that would be a bummer
because I don't have 9 installed, but you may, so I figured it was
worth mentioning.
