I would suggest learning java, since a lot more companies are hiring
java programmers than objective-c or cocoa programmers. When cocoa jobs
start existing, the people hiring are more likely to pick someone with
work experience. In fact, it's pretty easy to learn Objective-c and
cocoa if you know java, so I wouldn't be surprised if cocoa jobs go to
people with java work experience and no cocoa experience over, say,
shareware developers who've made a bunch of little apps.
btw, I in no way am saying java is better than objective-c or vice
versa. I'm mainly commenting on the current job market. If you really
dislike java or you still can't find a job, I would take the advice of
the person who said start your own company. If you want a suggestion of
what to work on, listen around for comments like "I would like to buy a
mac, but I really need program foo available only for windows" or "I
would like to upgrade to OS X, but I really need program foo available
only in classic".
