The ability to determine whether a file is in use was strange to some
participants, who decided it was therefore unmanly; they argued that it
would be better to punish users with data loss repeatedly until they
learned not to attempt multitasking on files.
Others suggested the reason one buys a Macintosh in the first place is
to avoid being beaten into making the software work properly.
