Itunes API/plugin

  Hi all,
  
  I have a hankering to write a plugin for itunes that will let me read
  books from project gutenberg from within itunes, so I would like to
  create a new extension (.gtb?) and be able to import and view those
  files from itunes.
  
  does anyone know, is this remotely possible with itunes?  is there a
  more suitable list to direct this question at?

  There's no iTunes plugin API for file types. iTunes will play anything
  QuickTime will, though, so you may want to head over to the QuickTime
  list and start reading up on writing playback codecs.

  I thought that to be the case until I tried playing aacPlus content in
  iTunes... :(
