Where to find artwork for 10.5-only system icons?

  • I'm writing an app to run on 10.4 and above.
I want to use the "QuickLook"  NSImage which is available as a named
image under 10.5, but not unknown under 10.4.
Does anyone know a source for tiff or other versions of the new 10.5
    icons?

I might be missing something in your intent (and my lack of coffee),
but using system icons should only be done for uses consistent with
the system - i.e., the QuickLook image should be used in association
with QuickLook itself - not some sort of, say, "eye color adjuster" or
something (or worse, some sort of quick-look like feature that isn't
    quicklook).

And since QuickLook only runs on 10.5, one wouldn't expect to see a
    QuickLook icon on 10.4.

  • I am, in fact, calling my own QuickLook plug-in from my own app, so
I'm not guilty of suborning a System icon. I just don't want to have
to distribute a broken or different-looking 10.4 version.

I don't know the answer to your original question, but perhaps you
should consider simply not showing UI for functionality that is not
(nor will ever be) available on the user's current OS.

You'll have to embed the image in your app then, and that's probably
not legal without getting Apple's permission.

Plus nothing prevents the icon from changing in a 10.5 upgrade, making
    it look different-looking regardless...

I'd suggest that you'd just be better off making your own "quickview
like" image and dealing with the fact that your 10.4 UI will look a
bit different from 10.5 (and the rest of the UI does anyway - for
example, if you include a system "folder" image in 10.4 it will look
different from the 10.5 version) -- a lot less hassle.
