Dock-refreshing

  • Hi, everybody.

    I just wanted to know if there's a more elegant way to refresh the
    Dock than "killing" the process? Because this means terminating
    Dashboard and (in Leopard) Spaces, and that's very un-elegant and not
    very pleasant for users.

  • I assume you mean since you edited or changed the dock behind its
    back?  If that is the case, then no, there is no way to refresh the
    dock.

  • You don't have to "kill" the dock...
    You can send a kAEQuitApplication to it. That should quit it
    gracefully. It still restarts the dashboard/spaces stuff, but it's
    better than straight killing it (IMHO).

    This technote contains some code for quitting the Finder which can be
    easily changed to quit the dock:
