Draw on Top of Menu Bar

  • OK, I know this probably violates all HI guidelines, but I have a
client who needs (ok, wants) a special-purpose app to draw some stuff
that overlaps the menu bar. Is that even possible?

    thanks

Well, depending on what you really mean, you can create an
NSStatusItem and set a view for it and do custom drawing there.

Yeah, but what they want is something that's about twice as tall as
the menu bar, overlapping it. Not something that fits nicely inside it.

Well, since you've acknowledged that it badly breaks HIG: Create a
borderless window with a level greater than kCGMainMenuWindowLevel
    and draw into it.
