(CAWUG) is holding our next meeting this coming Tuesday, May 9th, at
6:00 PM at the Apple Store on Michigan Ave.

        Agenda:
    - Introductions & Announcements
    - PackageMaker, Disk Utility, & hdiutil
    - Q & A
    - adjournment to O'Toole's

When:    Tuesday, May 9th, 6:00 PM

    ed=gYbE5Op_0Tokf_p7h61dwjbWtjC2r1YehzWw&csz=60611

    - PackageMaker, Disk Utility, & hdiutil

I will demonstrate how to use the standard GUI tools  to make a disk
image an a package for software distribution, as well as how to make
an installer plug in (so you can customize the installer behavior).
Additionally we will discuss package based distribution (generally
for complex installs) vs. drag based installation (generally for
simple installs).  Also, I will show how to combine all of these
steps into a script suitable for adding to a build target in Xcode so
you can automatically have a target that builds your distribution.

    - O'Tooles
We will continue the discussion at our local watering hold Timothy
O'Toole's at 622 Fairbanks (2 blocks east of the store).

We also wish to thank the folks who run the theater space at the

  • Due to an event at the Apple store, just a reminder that there will
be no June meeting next week.

Now, if folks want to just meet up at O'Tools, please respond on the
CAWUG mailing list, and maybe we'll have our "meeting" there this
    month :-)

Also, our next meeting will be Tuesday July 11th, and Jon will
present "Using and Embedding Quartz Composer"

    - PHP on Mac OS X

I recently had to dive in to a mature PHP project and will discuss my
observations of PHP.  Summary: PHP can be powerful and cool, but its
also very easy to slide into the big ball of mud design pattern
(bleh!).  Come to the meeting for more discussions of what was good
    and what was painful.

    - Post WWDC Wrapup

We will discuss the public announcements from WWDC and several people
that went will share their thoughts (though more of that might
actually happen more at O'Tooles :-)

    - C4
We will also discuss C4.  http://c4.rentzsch.com/

  • Hi All,

Just a quick reminder, the Chicago CocoaHeads / Chicago Cocoa and

    - Jon Monroe on ODBCKit

    - adjournment to O'Toole's

    When:
      Tuesday, December 12th, 6:00 PM

    - Jonathan Monroe from Actual Technologies (http://
    www.actualtechnologies.com/)
Jon will be talking about ODBCKit, the open source framework for
connecting Cocoa applications to any database through ODBC.  With the
ODBC libraries included with Mac OS X, you can develop an application
that can connect to virtually any database through a single API.
ODBCKit makes it even easier by providing a higher level Objective-C
abstraction.  The talk will include a demonstration of adding ODBC
    connectivity to an existing application.

    - Leopard Tech Talk (its this Wednesday, they added a few more spots,
sign up NOW! if you are hoping to go).

    - Q&A

    - O'Tooles
We will continue the discussion at our local watering hold Timothy
O'Toole's at 622 Fairbanks (2 blocks east of the store).

We also wish to thank the folks who run the theater space at the
Apple store for letting us have our meetings there, Steve Lorenz for
hosting our listserve, and Jonathan 'Wolf' Rentzsch for hosting the
new and revived CAWUG web site.  Thanks all.

Also, if you are working on a project and would like to talk about
it  briefly / promote it, I think it would be fun for people to hear
about  other people's projects.  Please email me off line and you can
talk at  a future meeting or would like a book to review.

    Future meetings dates: 1/9/2007 & 2/13/2007
