fieldEditor:forObject: returns NSText*?

  I'm curious why NSWindow's fieldEditor:forObject: method returns an NSText*, when it always actually returns a NSTextView*. Is it unsafe to downcast the returned NSText* to an NSTextView* so I can access its methods?

  I've been casting it to NSTextView* without untoward consequences. I have
  the vague impression that this oddity is a survivor from ancient times.
